1 Peter
1: 17-23; Acts 2:14a, 36-41
1 Peter
1: 17-23
Since you
call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time
as foreigners here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with
perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty
way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood
of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the
world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him
from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
Now that you
have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for
each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of
perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of
God.
Acts
2:14a, 36-41
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed
the crowd:
“Therefore
let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified,
both Lord and Messiah.”
When the
people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other
apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
Peter
replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ
for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy
Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far
off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
With many
other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from
this corrupt generation.” Those who accepted his message were baptized, and
about three thousand were added to their number that day.
